Senator Ted Cruz represents Texas in the U.S. Senate as a member of the Republican Party. Ted's current Senate term began January 3, 2025 and ends January 3, 2031. Ted Cruz earned his undergraduate degree from Princeton University and his law degree from Harvard Law School, where he was primary editor of the Harvard Law Review, and he clerked for Chief Justice William Rehnquist before serving as Solicitor General of Texas from 2003 to 2008. He was the first Hispanic American elected to the Senate from Texas when he won in 2012, and he mounted a significant campaign for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016, winning eleven states before suspending his campaign.
